Like the Hotel Washington in New Hampshire, we envisioned the deep, wraparound porches at the historic Wawona Hotel as a welcoming destination for visitors and guests – places to rock and chat, to read a book, sip a cocktail, or just enjoy the breeze and the view
.
We knew from our research in the National Park Service archive that wicker once played a major role at The Wawona – a material popular during the Victorian era because it was lightweight and easy to keep clean. We researched and specified seating of durable all weather wicker – pieces that looked historically appropriate, but which were resin-coated, paper-wrapped wire that had been woven on an aluminum frame. The two coordinating fabrics we selected for the seat cushions complimented the hotel’s exterior paint scheme.
